Alicia Thornthwaite is a Front end web developer, former scientist and entrepreneur
I have two degrees in Forensic Science. BSc (Hons) with First Class Honours and MSc with Merit. In the past I worked with both Gas and Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry technology in drug surveillance: HPLC, GCMS and LCMS as well as NMR. I’ve worked at Kings College, London, the University of Cambridge and LGC (previously Horse racing Forensic Laboratory.
I created AfroDeity Ltd which was founded to help small farmers in the Caribbean by bringing healing oils and butters to a new receptive UK audience. Alicia also created a new product line the Luxury ‘Joliette’ Collection made from oils and butters inspired by the Caribbean in honour of my mother.
I lived and worked in several countries. At sixteen, I was one of two students chosen to go to Ivy League Brown University to study Vertebrate Morphology and Physiology as part of a taster course for Young Aspiring People.
I later lived in Madrid, Spain for two years studying for a degree in Organic Chemistry and worked as an English Language tutor.
I transferred to Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge to continue my passion for Forensic Toxicology and achieved First Class Honours. I was also awarded a prize for my undergraduate thesis by the Forensic Science Service. I also worked part time in the university language centre.
I went to work as a Drugs Analyst at Kings College London and during this time analysed samples from the Olympics and many major sporting events.
I moved back to Cambridgeshire and continued to work in Drug Surveillance at the HorseRacing Forensic Laboratory. I completed my masters degree with Merit, whilst working full time. My main research was in canine toxicology and doping.
My stack includes HTML5, CSS including Bootstrap and Flexbox, Javascript E6 with Frameworks: React and Angular, Testing Software like Jasmine, Ecommerce platforms like Shopify’s Liquid and limited experience with NodeJS and Express JS.
